Lauren Everitt's CRIT

Writer's picture: Caitlyn RaffertyCaitlyn Rafferty

I really like Laurens artwork, as its very vibrant, and it stands out. Lauren stated during her critical that uses emoticons within her work that are suitable for all ages ranges, as she has a younger sister who she wanted to be able to present her work too. the types of emoticons she uses within her work can be identified as sexual to an older audience as some of the emoticons represent phallic ideologies, or the female genitalia, however to her younger sister she would look at these emoticons in a non-sexual way. I love this concept as it shows how the media mediates peoples minds into believing that the simplest fruit or vegetable can represent something sexual. the work is interpreted to however you want to interpret it as. I love the use of repetition of the emoticons as its reinforcing that it should be normalised and people should not feel prudent when looking at it. Lauren stetted during her crit that she needed to do bigger work, which I think that is a good idea as it would help grab the audience perceiving it attention a lot more, which is what I Believe is the effect she is going for.
