Françoise Nielly was born in Marseille but is currently living in Paris. Françoise Nielly starts by sketching the human face onto canvas and paints on top of it over and over again with layers of paint so there are grooves in the texture of the painting. She intends for her paintings, to show emotions as each painting has ‘a soul’. As an artist I am heavily inspired by Françoise Nielly, I like how she explores colour in her work. The colours that Françoise Nielly uses within her artwork are bright so they have positive connotations. I also like how Françoise Nielly uses portraiture as a main focus within her paintings, I have been inspired by this. I believe when painting faces you can express a lot of emotion and you can tell a lot about an artist by the way they have applied their chosen medium to the type of canvas, paper or other. Françoise Nielly applies oil paint with a pallet knife and I find this so interesting as the faces look realistic even though they are not precisely applied to the canvas.
